CONGRESS

CHANNEL FLIPPER - Its Not Nice To Fool Grandma Pelosi

Speaker Pelosi, after a meeting at the White House two days ago, said that the meeting was more of a "notification" than a "consultation". I think she is right. Other news information confirms that an advance party has been in Iraq for sixty days preparing for the surge. That would mean that, if planning time took an additional sixty days, the decision and planning on the  project would have started sometime in August or September of last year. It looks like that the administration has continued its arrogant unilateral policy of making major decisions without input from Congress.

This has got to stop. The House needs to assert itself earlier in the decision  making process with consequences when its not included.........not passively receiving information after the fact.

The news media has again fallen into the rovian trap of discussing and debateing actions already taken as if they are yet to be made. The public discussion and debate should be about why the decision was made unilaterlly and without early inclusion of Congress.

Grandma Nancy is right as rain.

TRICARE FOR GUARD AND RESERVEā€œ

(House of Representatives - May 25, 2005)

[Page: H3900] GPO's PDF

(Mr. TAYLOR of Mississippi asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)

Mr. TAYLOR of Mississippi. Madam Speaker, we have a lot to remember on Memorial Day. Today in south Mississippi, four families will be receiving death notices. Every one of those families had a young guardsman over in Iraq who was killed yesterday.

Last Friday, I visited Walter Reed. Five young soldiers were wounded, four of them amputees, every one of them Guardsmen Or Reservists.

Just last week the Committee on Armed Services passed an amendment that would allow Guardsmen and Reservists to buy TRICARE insurance for themselves and their families. Somewhere between the committee, where it passed, and the Committee on Rules, where it failed, it was blocked on a straight party-line vote.

So as we remember Memorial Day, I hope every Guardsman in America will remember the gentleman from California (Mr. Dreier), the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Lincoln Diaz-Balart), the gentleman from Washington (Mr. Hastings), the gentleman from Texas (Mr. Sessions), the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Putnam), the gentlewoman from West Virginia (Mrs. Capito), the gentleman from Oklahoma (Mr. Cole), the gentleman from Connecticut (Mr. Bishop) and the gentleman from Georgia (Mr. Gingrey), eight of the nine who never served a day in uniform who voted to see that our Nation's Guardsmen and Reservists cannot buy Federal health insurance.

MEDICARE ADS PAID BY DRUG INDUSTRY

Reminds me several years ago when they ran ads for Congressman Lookinggood praising him to hight heaven for his marvelous work on Part D perscription drugs. Art Linkletter could not find enough words to describe what a good deal it was.

CONGRESSMAN LOOKINGGOOD NEEDS TO STOP BY HIS OFFICE AND LOOK ON HIS DESK

In between his trips to Arizona to shovel out money to his colleagues and high profile trips to vist General Hobb and General Knobb in the Colony of Iraq, the good ongressman needs to stop by D.C. and look at his desk. Among all of his travel iteneraries and lists of contributors he should find a first draft of the Budget Resolution for the 2007 budget. Congress is way behind on is participation in the budge process. None of the major or minor decisions have been made on items. There has been little dicussion or debate so far. There has been a blackout this year on what is going to happen, just like in the past years. Congressional leadership is to blame in part but the decider has also has not done his part. Decider has appointed the OMB head to be his chief of staff, leaving the responsibilty to the next brave man that joins the Administration. None of the budget makers are addressing the deficit, national debt or federal spending issues out loud and no wonder.  April 15 was the usual deadline for Congress to have had committee meetings and adopted a fiscal resolution conference report. No one has even mentioned the budget. The good congressman should to take some interest in the process ......................right now the BRAC expenses remain unfunded.
