Saturday has been declared to be SIGN BLITZ DAY!

The plan is for blitzers to gather at the campaign headquarters at 816 Gore Blvd. at 10:00 am Saturday, November 4th and put up candidate signs.

We have received new shipments of signs from a lot of canndidates in all sizes. We especially need locations and help putting up the extra large ones.

If you have a sledge hammer and/or a metal post driver we sure could use them. Plastic ties are also needed.

The recent windstorm blew away a lot of signs. If you know of a location that needs a sign replaced call the hq at the phone above or, better yet, come by and pick up a supply.

Come by and help out. This event only happens once every two years. You will be left out if you don't participate in

SPIRIT OF SURVIVAL MARATHON - Medicine Park

A premier distance running event is planned to take place in the Medicine Park/Wichita Mountains Refuge on October 14-15. Runs include Mountain Marathon, Holy Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, Big Rock 10 K, Mount Scott 10K, Prairie Dog Scamper, Family Fun Run, Spirit of Survival Victory March.

If you are familiar with the area, these are no picnic in the park events. Prize money is going to be the best on the running circuit

I would recommend you park in the School House Slough area of Lake Lawtonka. Shuttle buses will take you to the Medicine Park area. Parking will be almost nonexistent in MP on these days. Lots of eating places and shops in MP and at the I44 exit.

Directions to School House Slough:  5 miles north of Lawton on I-44, 4 miles west on SH-59,
1 1/2 miles north on SH-58. If you are coming from the North on the Turnpike, take the Medicine Park exit (Love's Country Store), 4 miles west on SH-59, 1 1/2miles north on SH 58. Speed limits are enforced.

See the Spirit of Survival Marathon web site at: http://www.spiritofsurvival.com

Editor: Why is this on this web site? This will be one of the bigger events between now and election day and candidates should be out there with crews and signs campaigning.

CANDIDATES FORUM SET FOR OCTOBER 17

On Oct 17, 2006 the League of Women Voters will host a candidates forum at 6:00 PM.
The location for this event will be at the Great Plains Technology Center. The county party will actively promote this event and I ask that all Democrats come and support our candidates. This will be a non-partisan forum and will be moderated by a neutral party (probably Jan Stratton). Candidates from both sides of the aisle will be in attendance. Hope to see everyone there.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DEMOCRATIC VOTERS AND CANDIDATES

EDITORIAL OPINION

CCDem congratulates the Democratic voters and candidates for an excellent election cycle. The voters showed that they do care about their local government and how it is run. The issues and questions were within the bounds of fair debate and, in most cases, the right people got elected to the right offices.

I also think that the election showed the following:

  • Democrat voters do care about fair administration of the the tax laws and expect their public officials to assess and collect taxes according to law and without preferential treatment.
  • Democrat voters expect their public officials to budget and spend the public money according to law and without personal opinions and preferences.
  • Democrat voters want public officers to represent what the people want, within the boundaries of overall public good.
  • Democrat voters will reward and support public officials who stand up to large corporate interests and tell them no when the public good is involved.
  • Democrat voters will pay for public education if they feel the tax money is being legally and properly assessed, budgeted and spent.
  • Democrat voters will continue support and protect public health care institution's assets from raiding if the money is properly administered and spent.
  • Democrat voters did study the qualifications and experience of all the state and local candidates and voted their conclusions and left celebrity and personal sentiments out of the the process.

We hope the Democratic voters will continue to study the issues and qualifications of the candidates in the runoff, and more importantly in the General Election.

No matter what anyone says; Democracy is hard work. It requires constant attention and should not be left to politicians and special interest groups to tell you what is good and what is right.
